Standard commercial flagpoles measure between thirty and sixty feet. They are typically made of one piece aluminum or steel tubing read here. Depending on how dramatic your vision is, you might need more than one flagpole. Make sure you have enough space between the flagpoles so that they can wave and allow for growth, in case you need to put bigger flags down later.
Two types of flag halyards are available: pulley and rope systems. On the pole’s outer edge, you will find external halyard systems. This type of rigging involves attaching the flag to a rope. The rope is looped around a truck or wheel at top of flagpole. The flag is held in place by the rope wrapped around a bottom cleat. The problem is security with external halyard systems is that it is too easy to cut the rope.
You can make your pole more durable and secure by installing an internal halyard system. This allows you to keep the cable or rope inside the pole. It can be reached via a special winch that is installed in a door compartment at the base of the shaft. Make sure to choose a revolving pickup truck so that the flag won’t become wrapped around your pole when the winds change direction. Steel is the best choice for commercial flagpole material. Steel flagpoles have the highest strength and require little maintenance. Bronze alloys are more classic and have a timeless look. Most bronze alloys can be used for historical and national architectural purposes. This material is likely to darken as it ages. Flash collars are used on commercial flagpoles to cover the pole’s bottom and ground sleeves.
